HS/DP in Brief

High School

International School of Poznan High School offers a four-year program taught in two stages. Stage One – in first and second year (grades HS1 and HS2) students attend all obligatory subjects (based on the Polish national curriculum), most of them taught in English. Stage Two – year three and four students (DP1 and DP2) follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), taught in English. At the end of Stage One students take an internal exam to qualify to Stage Two. 

We offer an additional entry grade – 0 class (English language crash course) for students whose English skills are not sufficient to enter our high school and study in English. 0 Class students have approx. 24 English hours/week, additionally Polish, math, history and science lessons. At the end of the entry grade, students take an internal exam to qualify to first grade. 

The IB DP:

International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is respected by leading universities across the globe, including Poland.

The curriculum is made up of the DP Core and six DP Subject Groups.

The DP Core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills. The three DP Core elements are:

1. Theory of Knowledge (ToK), in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know
2. The Extended Essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper
3. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), in which students complete a project related to those three concepts

The six DP Subject Groups are (subject choices vary at IB World Schools):

Group I: Language A – student’s first or best language, including the study of selection of world literature
Group II: Language B, ab initio – second modern language courses or classical languages
Group III: Individuals and Societies – courses of history, geography, philosophy, psychology, ITGS, economics, etc.
Group IV: Experimental Sciences – biology, chemistry, physics
Group V: Mathematics – Analysis and Approaches SL /HL, Applications and Interpretation SL
Group VI: The Arts – visual or performing arts or another subject chosen from groups II,III or IV

ISoP DP Subject Choices:

Group I: Language A – literature – Polish A SL/HL, English A SL/HL
Group II: Language B – English B HL, Spanish SL/HL, German SL/HL
Group III: Individuals and Societies – history of Europe SL/HL, geography SL/HL
Group IV: Experimental Sciences – biology SL/HL, chemistry SL/HL, physics SL/HL, Computer Science (SL only)
Group V: Mathematics – Mathematics AA HL, Mathematics AA SL, Mathematical AI SL
Group VI: – a subject chosen from groups II, III or IV
